Ruby blinks, reeling the fish in as she waves the smoke bomb away with a cough.  She sets the fish aside and casts again as the monsters scatter.

"I don't know what's in those smoke bombs, but it sure scares them off."

She watches the lure bob in the water.

"I'd like to think that they made it out.  If you blew something up, whatever was after you would have probably gone for that."

"Just... a lot of doubts. Id rather not go into detail, we should talk about more positive things... How have you been enjoying your time here?"

Ruby blinks, blushing, and looks away as she pulls the fish off her line and sets it aside with the others.

"I've been enjoying it okay.  The people have overall been nice, and it's been pretty peaceful... though I'm still very lost around here, I feel like I haven't been useful."

She casts the line again.

"There's just so much I don't know.  I asked Ymir to show me some things tomorrow, but ..."

She sniffles.

"I'm still so lost."

"I know how that feels... The first few days here I just wandered around, as if waiting to wake up from a dream. Im still pretty lost around here, its so foreign compared to the life I lived before but it has its benefits..."

Ruby looks up at him.

"Benefits?"

She reels the fish in, setting it with the others, and casts again.  She suppresses a chill, feeling a mild creepy-crawly feeling.

He nods.

"Its safe, quiet and healthy. I dont have to worry about being killed in my sleep, walking into venom clouds and other lethal things. I can actually relax... I just wish the others I knew could do the same."

Ruby reels in the little fishy, letting it go back.

"There is that.  The closest to crime I've seen is Ymir showing me how quick he is with his hands, to take away my pendant without me even noticing.  He gave it back, though, so I don't think that really counts."

She casts again, suppressing a larger shiver.

"So... did you have any kind of romantic interest back there?"  She backpedals verbally.  "Er- I mean, I'm just trying to make conversation, not to pry, um... uh..."

She looks away.

"You don't have to answer that one if you don't want to."

He blushes a bit.


"I-Its fine... *He pauses a moment before shaking his head* No... Relations were uncommon too. Usually the strong or leaders had the time for such things. Borderline tribal in a sense. I did have a chance once but I was interested in something more than just a... reproductive relation. *He shudders* I got hell for a few weeks for that one."

Ruby nods, setting the fish among the others as she prepares to cast again.

"I see.  I had someone before... well.  You know.  Funny, I'd always wondered how the dead coped with these things.  We don't fare much better, emotion-wise, than the living.  I don't know why I expected it any differently."

She casts the line, shivering visibly.

"We should probably get going after I reel this one in, I have a bad feeling about staying here any longer tonight."

He nods.

"I see... So I guess you still have feelings for your other then? Must have been nice... *He stands, dusting himself off* Im ready to go when you are..."

Ruby brings in the fish, setting her current one in the pile.  She picks half of them up, offering them to Sol to carry.

"Pain, more like.  I've been trying to distract myself, really.  I know I will never see him again.  I have to get used to that fact, and the sooner I do that, the better."  She sighs.  "I just wish the heart would listen to what the brain says.  I may have to find someone here in order to solidify that fact within my mind."

She lifts the other half of the fish pile, wading slowly through the water toward the gate.

"Shall we get these to storage?"

She walks slowly, waiting for him to cross through the gate first.

He grabs the fish and starts to head back.

"What do you mean find someone here?"
