Sir Lionel of Oxford
Species: Lion
Age: 26
Height: 6’5’’
Orientation: Straight
Born: August 10, 1158
Cause of death: Fell in battle defending his king from Saladin’s forces in Acre.
Backstory:
He was a mounted soldier for King Richard the First during the Crusades having left his home in Oxford to fight alongside his childhood friend, the king. They trained together at a young age becoming proficient in a wide range of weapons though Lionel only truely excelled in the broadsword and cavalry sword rather than the lance, bow, or ax.
A devout Christian he has no qualms about going to war for his church and beliefs and was raised with the manners of the royal courts and thus comes across as a charismatic gentleman willing to die for his king. Unlike King Richard and the other soldiers, however, he does not see the point in killing non-Christians simply for not being Christian. Rather his valor in the holy wars stemmed from his loyalty to King Richard and his wish to see the Holy Lands back in the hands of the church rather than the Muslim leader, Saladin.
Died before he could see the end of the crusade.
Struggle:
Often finds himself thinking about his previous life and worrying about if his King survived the fight. This tends to make him distracted. Along with his occasional bouts of daydreaming this can ruin his focus at in opportune times.
He also is very conscious of the people he killed in the name of King Richard and while he believes wholeheartedly in the cause that led him to the fight, he still feels the weight of the men, women, and children that fell by his sword.
Personality:
Gentle but very strong, Lionel has a love of beauty and sees fighting as an art form. He acts by a code of honor and chivalry and spends all his dealings serving others having never been the top of the food chain himself. Fights like a lion with fire in his bones but outside of having to defend those he loves, Lionel is actually very sensitive and, when comfortable, is very laid back.
